National School Counseling Week | February 5-9
National School Counseling Week is an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the important work that our school counselors do in supporting our students. Their commitment to standards-based practices and a student-focused approach is crucial in helping our students succeed in school and plan for their future careers. Let’s celebrate, recognize, and spread the love to our school counselors for their invaluable role in guiding and supporting our students. We genuinely appreciate you!
The Georgia Department of Education would like to thank all professional school counselors for the hard work and dedication they put forth to make sure all Georgia's students have the academic, personal/social, and career development to be successful and productive citizens.
Do you know the professional school counselor here at College Park Elementary? He played and later coached football while attending West Georgia College. His favorite color is blue, his birthday is August 30th, and his favorite football team is the Denver Broncos. He also enjoys riding his motorcycle, reading, playing tennis, and spending time with his family and friends. Please give him a fist bump or elbow when you see him.
If you have not thanked your professional school counselor lately, don't miss this excellent opportunity to do so!
Greetings family and friends of College Park,
Some time ago, my friend’s son was having a difficult time after he had changed schools. His life seemed to be falling apart in every direction and he was failing in most subjects. His father was concerned. Then he happened to meet an old friend who always seemed to be on top of the world. He asked him, “How come you’re always so positive and in control of everything?” His friend replied, “There were seven children in our family, and my dad always kept a storybook on each one of us. In the storybook, he wrote down every good thing he saw any of us do. At, the end of each month, Dad called us into our bedroom, took out the storybook, and said, ‘I’d like you to read this’. He did this for years.” His friend decided to try it with his son. He bought a storybook and started to look for something good in his son. He couldn’t find one good thing to write down for an entire two weeks. One night as he and his wife were discussing this problem, they realized that they’d been so down on their son that they couldn’t see even one good thing in him. The father confessed his faults and began to look harder and harder and finally found something to write in his storybook. One day he called him into his bedroom and said, “I have a storybook I want you to read.” The boy was very quiet as he read it, then he said, “Do you really feel this way about me?” “Indeed I do!” he replied. He began to cry and said, “I thought you and mom were only down on me all the time. I didn’t think you loved me anymore--that you thought I was a complete failure.”
